Drugs Are Seized At The Border, Why Not Smugglers?

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized drugs worth about Tk 5.5 crore in the past 34 months through Habiganj, Moulvibazar and Sylhet borders. However, most of these drugs were found abandoned. Very few arrests have been made for carrying drugs.
Among these recovered drugs are domestic and foreign liquor, Indian ganja, Phensidil, Indian beer, cans, Yaba tablets, Escop syrup, Nasir Patar bidi and Baba Zorda.
Concerned citizens have expressed concern about the recovery of drugs and illegal goods in abandoned conditions without the main drug business.
They say that so many drugs are coming to the country, but who is bringing them? It has no news. If the main drug dealer is not caught. If he is not identified, then the spread of drug dealers will continue to increase day by day. It is very important to control it. The Border Guard Force BGB needs to increase its activity. In this case, the first thing they have to do is to identify the main importer of drugs and the money investor behind it.
In this regard, BGB says, when they conduct raids in border areas, smugglers leave drugs and enter inside India. Due to which it is not possible to arrest them.
According to BGB data, Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB) recovered drugs worth Tk 71 lakh 49 thousand 750 in the last 20 months. 293 people have been arrested and booked with these drugs.
55 BGB captain SM Samiunnabi Chowdhury confirmed this information in a press release after the narcotics destruction ceremony of Srimangal Battalion (46 BGB), Biyanibazar Battalion (52 BGB) and Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB) on Saturday.
According to the notification, 11 thousand 908 bottles of Indian liquor, 62 thousand liters of 600 grams of liquor, 7 thousand 384 bottles of Indian Fensidil, 5 thousand 591 were recovered by conducting anti-narcotics operations from various borders of Habiganj, Moulvibazar and Sylhet districts from October 2019 to July 2022. Kg of 1 gram ganja, 909 bottles of Indian beer, 15 thousand 726 pieces of Indian yaba tablets, 378 bottles of Eskap syrup, 35 lakh 59 thousand 200 pieces of Nasir leaf bidis, 475 packets of Baba Jorda were destroyed. Its market value is 5 crore 29 lakh 41 thousand 880 taka.
Habiganj Judge Court Advocate Hafizul Islam said, "A large amount of drugs came into the country. But in most cases only drugs were recovered. No one is detained. They did not come out of thin air. Surely a conglomerate of drug dealers brought it. They have collectively spread to different parts of the country. But the Border Guard Force has failed to nab the main drug traffickers of the BGB. It appears to be dereliction of duty on their part.
Most of the time why smugglers are not caught? In response to such a question, BGB-55 battalion captain SNM Samiunnabi Chowdhury said, "When BGB conducted an operation, the smugglers entered the Indian border after realizing it. Due to which it is not possible to catch them entering other countries. That is why this opportunity is taken by drug smugglers.
He also said, 'Indian Border Guard Force (BSF) members perform duties in specific areas or posts. Due to which they do not get help in catching smugglers in remote areas.
BGB captain Samiunnabi Chowdhury said, "I send a letter to the Indian Border Guard every month to stop drug smuggling." In the letter, I asked for their help in stopping the smuggling of harmful drugs by highlighting the issues of humanity. They also replied to my letter appreciating the anti-smuggling issue. But nothing very effective is happening.
